How to Maintain High Energy Levels at Work

If your work day is like mine, it starts early in the morning and extends into the evening. The challenge is to maintain a high energy level throughout that full work day.

Then, of course, when you get home you just can’t crash on the couch. Your family wants your time along with those must-do tasks that are also on your list.

Here are my thoughts on how to boost your energy levels.

Keep Hydrated

eye strainJust like any automobile, we run on fuel. A big part of that is water. A key recommendation is that you drink half your body weight in ounces of water every day. For example, if you weigh 140 pounds drink 70 ounces of water during the day.

Eat the Right Food

The other part of the fuel we need is food. First is the quality of that food. Dropping preservatives and going with healthy, natural food is the first step. No Twinkies, try apples instead. Lean protein instead of carbohydrates is also recommended.

The next step is to watch the quantity of food. First, this will help you maintain a healthy weight. And, second, by eating smaller meals more frequently you’ll better maintain your energy levels. There’s a reason that you go to sleep after a large meal.

In addition, make sure you are getting all the right vitamins from your food and take the needed supplements for the rest of them.

Get Plenty of Rest

This includes sleep at night but also rest during the day. While you may not be able to take a nap in the afternoon at your office, you can take frequent breaks, or just get up from your desk.

I also recommend resting your eyes frequently. You’re staring at that computer screen all day long. Try the 20-20-20 rule and look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes. It works.

Get Some Exercise

It doesn’t have to be a great deal of exercise, but it does have to happen every day. This gets your muscles working and your heart pumping. It helps you maintain the right weight, and it also helps you let go of the day through some light work on a bicycle or treadmill. Just leave all the issues of the day behind you.

Find the Right Work

Find the right work and the right people to accomplish that work and you’ll be much more energized. You’ll look forward to your job each day.

That’s what I’ve been able to do here at Vision Source Plano. I’m in the job I love. The job I wanted to do since I watched my dad doing the same job when I was growing up.

I’ve also been able to recruit just the right team of people to serve our patients. Every single one of them is my go-to person. They get things done for our office and for you.
